Norman Retailers Build on Sooner Spirit

Norman, both a suburb and the third-most-populated city in the state, competently competes with Oklahoma City for commercial growth. In multiple areas, the home to the University of Oklahoma Sooners comes out on top. State Designates ‘Technology Corridor’

Norman Economic Development Coalition Receives State CareerTech Award

The Norman Economic Development Coalition (NEDC) was honored with a Partners for Progress Award during the 2005 Career and Technology Education Summer Conference held Aug. 2-4 at the Tulsa Convention Center. The award recognizes businesses that were nominated by their local technology center for their contributions to the development, promotion, and progress of Oklahoma’s technology center system. Norman Is ACTing Up

Based on the performance of 2005 graduates, ACT compiled its test information to measure the college readiness of among high school students. While Oklahoma's average score is 20.4- the national average is 20.9 - several area districts posted significantly higher numbers. Cleveland County Workforce Investment Board Elects New Officers

NORMAN, Okla. – The Cleveland County Workforce Investment Board elected its 2005-2006 officers at their regularly scheduled board meeting held Tuesday, August 16th. The Board is pleased to announce its incoming Chairman, Dee Ann Gay. “Since becoming a Workforce Board member I’ve gained a better appreciation of how our One Stop agency works to ensure there are opportunities to offer help and training in an ever changing working environment.” Gay said.

Cherokee Woman Receives Sub-Contract

NORMAN, Okla. – CND, L.L.C. and subcontractor, Atmospheric Technology Services Company, L.L.C., collectively referred to as the “Cherokee Team,” have been awarded a contract to support Argonne National Laboratory’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility – Southern Great Plains (ACRF-SGP) site and systems operations, and facilities management of the U.S. Department of Energy. Norman Receives Thirteenth Consecutive Financial Award

For the fourteenth year in a row, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Norman by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. OU Gains Aviation Accreditation

The aviation department at the University of Oklahoma Outreach has become just one of 20 schools nationwide to receive accreditation for its bachelor's degree programs in aviation management and professional pilot, officials said Monday. Oklahoma Employment Briefing

The most recent monthly data release shows Oklahoma’s seasonally -adjusted employment growing 0.1%, or by 1,300 jobs between June 2005 and July 2005. During this time period, Oklahoma was one of thirty-four states in the nation and one of five states in the region that posted monthly seasonally -adjusted employment gains. Progress of the National Weather Center on OU’s south campus
A camera has been installed to capture the daily progress of the National Weather Center on south campus. The University of Oklahoma (OU) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are constructing the National Weather Center to provide a consolidated, state-of-the-art facility for research, operations, education, and training.
