Americas Inc. – which provides forecasting communications to, among others,
shipping companies and property managers – celebrated the grand opening of
its new building on Oct. 20, 2004, on the University of Oklahoma’s Research
Campus-South. The building, which went from decision to occupancy in just 13
months, according to T.H. Lee Williams, university vice president of

full story NOAA Researcher First Meteorologist Chosen To
Receive Soloviev Medal From European Geophysical Society Charles
Doswell III has been chosen to receive the Sergey Soloviev Medal presented by
the European Geophysical Society. Doswell is a senior research scientist with
the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies, a joint
institute of the University of Oklahoma and the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration located in Norman, Okla. He is the first
meteorologist to be selected for the prestigious award.

Inc. Magazine Weather Decision Technologies,
Inc. (WDT), a leader in the commercial weather industry, announced today that
it's been named one of America's fastest-growing private companies by
Inc. Magazine. The "Inc. 500" list ranks the
nation's top entrepreneurial firms according to sales growth over the past

honors York International York International Corp. of Norman has been recognized by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America for the company’s sponsorship through its Luxaire brand of products. Luxaire recently announced the renewal of its three-year partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, first signed in November 2001. As a corporate sponsor, a portion of every sale of a Luxaire product is donated toward the company’s minimum annual contribution of $250,000. Annual Cleveland County Youth Holiday Drive The Cleveland County Workforce Investment
Board Youth Council is conducting its third annual holiday project to provide
food and clothing to needy youth and families. The Youth Council is asking
individuals and companies to donate items such as money, hygiene products,
clothing and non-perishable food. Donations are tax-deductible. Click here to read the
full story OU’s 13th president feeling lucky Who knows where the University
of Oklahoma would be if David Boren were a bit more superstitious. OU
probably still would be in Norman.
But the university might not have grown in such dynamic fashion if not
for Boren’s decision to become its president. At the anniversary dinner November 10th, it was
announced OU has received $1 billion in gifts and pledges since Boren became

Pat Mayes named Workforce Investment Area Leader of
the Year Workforce Oklahoma recently announced Pat Mayes, chairman
of the board of directors of First American Bank, as the Cleveland
County Workforce Investment Area 2004 Business Leader of the Year at its
annual Workforce Oklahoma Alumni Celebration. Workforce Oklahoma celebrates
Oklahoma’s workforce system and seeks to recognize individuals who have made
improvements to the systems as well as recognize individuals who utilize the
system to increase their job skills. Click here to
read the full story $2.5 million gift to fund academic services center University of Oklahoma undergraduates in search of help likely will find it at a new academic services center. OU President David Boren announced Nov. 4 a $2.5 million gift from Lissa and Cy Wagner of Midland, Texas, that will help pay for the center and scholarships. The 38,000-square-foot Lissa and Cy Wagner Student Academic Services Center will be built where the aging Savoie Lottinville building now stands, next to the McCasland Field House. facility for research park The University of Oklahoma plans to build a second multi-tenant office facility on its research campus in Norman. The first office facility now houses Weathernews Americas. The second facility will provide about 50,000 additional square feet of commercial office space, which may be leased to entities interested in locating near other technology resources on OU’s Research Campus. Department Awards Gold Medal to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center and Five
Weather Forecast Offices The U.S.
Department of Commerce has awarded its prestigious Gold Medal to the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman,
Okla., and five Weather Forecast Offices in the southern and central region
of the National Weather Service. The award was presented in recognition of
their outstanding, life saving performance during a record tornado outbreak

promises OU its biggest corporate gift ever An Oklahoma City-based oil and gas drilling company will dig deep and give the University of Oklahoma its biggest corporate gift ever. Devon Energy Corp will donate $10 million for a teaching and research facility to be built at the corner of Boyd Street and Jenkins Avenue. Company and university officials announced the gift on Nov. 8 outside the Carson Engineering building, next to where the 80,000-square-foot, $27 million Devon Energy Hall will be built. Dell location benefits Norman, questions remain Central location within the metro appears to be the prime reason Dell Computers announced on Nov. 1, 2004, it will locate a huge call center in Oklahoma City. Norman was a contender for the Dell project, but economic development leaders say the city was not equipped with the necessary economic incentives to compete for an employer of this size. Dell will build a 120,000-square-foot call center on a 62-acre tract of park land northeast of I-44 and SW 15th Street. The site is near the Oklahoma River and Oklahoma City’s Bricktown. NOAA Storm Prediction Center Students
from Norman and Moore Public Schools are participating in a Job Shadow
program with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm
Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. The program allows high school students
interested in meteorology to spend a day interacting with operational

Mini-Series Producers of the CBS mini-series, Category 6: Day
of Destruction, consulted meteorologists from the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration in Norman, Okla., to make the program more
accurate. Dr. Joseph Schaefer, director of the NOAA Storm Prediction Center,
and Dr. Harold Brooks, research meteorologist with the NOAA National Severe
Storms Laboratory, reviewed scripts of the production and provided
